Millwall Community Trust (MCT) is delighted to announce that Turnham Academy School will be representing them in the Premier League’s ‘Girls Kit Drop’ Football Tournament at Crystal Palace’s prestigious training ground.
Turnham Academy won our partner school tournament by defeating Riverside Primary School at The Lions Centre, earning their spot in the regional round of the competition. There, they will face other schools representing clubs such as Chelsea, Palace, Arsenal, and Fulham.
The Premier League, in collaboration with Nike, has provided over 4,000 sets of football kit to schools with girls’ teams that work with their local professional football clubs. Delivered through the Premier League Primary Stars programme, the scheme aims to encourage more young girls across England and Wales to participate in football.
Premier League Primary Stars supports pupils to be active and learn essential life skills, while also providing opportunities for girls to take part in football and sports. The Premier League has previously distributed more than 7,000 sets of free football kits to primary schools involved in the programme and continues to inspire young children through targeted workshops and interventions.
MCT Primary Stars and Schools Coordinator, Emily Poole, said: “Running these tournaments and competitions for our partner schools is always a pleasure. The final was a very competitive game between Turnham and Riverside, but every participant showed great sportsmanship while having lots of fun.
“It’s going to be an unbelievable experience for Turnham Academy, playing at Crystal Palace’s training ground and representing Millwall Community Trust in this fantastic tournament. We would love to work and partner with more schools throughout Lewisham and Southwark so that they can also access opportunities like this and the Premier League Primary Stars programme.”
