Millwall Community Trust (MCT) hosted another successful half-term multi-sports camp at St Paul’s Sports Ground and the Lions Centre. During the half-term, kids are prone to being less active as they are not receiving physical education at home. To try and counteract this, Millwall host holiday camps to give the kids an opportunity for physical education, while also providing a form of affordable childcare for parents who still need to work. The children partake in activities such as football, hockey, badminton, and much more. Any child aged 5-15 years old can come along to get active and meet new friends.

We spoke to Millwall coach, David, about how the multi-sports camps help children in the surrounding areas during the half term.

How long have you been a coach at Millwall?

I have been a coach at Millwall for three months now. I was on the post-16 course and I got a job here as a coach during the school holidays.

What is it like being a coach at Millwall?

It’s really nice! Community is a big thing that Millwall takes pride in and I feel like I’m enjoying my time here.

What do you offer the children at these multi-sports camps?

We offer the children fun activities for them to take part in and show that they’re together. Importantly, we show that no one feels alone.

What do the children take away from their week at the camp?

Just playing here together, that's what they gain.

Why should a parent send their child to a Millwall half term camp?

If they have a job they might not have people to take care of them, so we can take care of them.

We also spoke with one of the children from the October half-term camp, for their perspective of the camps.

How many times have you been to a Millwall camp?

I have been here three times - this is my third. I enjoy it!

What is your favourite thing about the camp?

Just playing football really. I mostly enjoy the other sports too.

As you are not a Millwall fan, do you feel like you can come here and still have fun?

Yes I do

Whether you are working, or want the kids off their consoles during the school holidays, MCT half-term camps in the local areas are perfect.

We will be hosting winter camps from the 20th of December, so keep a lookout on our social media for announcements of the next camp.
