Millwall Community Trust had the honour of hosting the Jimmy Mizen Cup on behalf of the Mizen Foundation.

The event was held at the Lions Centre between local primary school teams, who played matches against each other, until one was crowned the winner.

Sean Daly, CEO of the Community Trust, said: “It was a great day for all! The kids listened to Barry and Margaret Mizen’s story and the encouragement they gave them. They went on to play fantastic matches, where they really showed their skills and fantastic teamwork.

MCT were more than happy to host, and we look forward to continuing to support the Mizen Foundation. A big congratulations to everyone who took part, and well done to Holy Trinity Primary School who went on to win.”

After the event, all the children who took part received tickets to the Millwall FC game, a medal, a matchday programme, a Millwall water bottle, and more to thank them and congratulate them for participating.

Speaking after the event, Barry Mizen said: “Today we’ve been watching the football tournament, the Jimmy Mizen Cup, some fantastic young people from local schools have been here. A lot of hard work has gone in, some great football, some great skills, and a wonderful atmosphere. These young people have been invited to the game on Saturday. They will be with us, where we will get them all out on the pitch and will present the Jimmy Mizen Cup to them.

“Millwall has supported us ever since our Jimmy was murdered in 2008. We’re truly grateful to the club and all the fans. It’s been absolutely wonderful. You continue to support us, we will continue to do what we do, and that’s to promote the good on our young people.

Margaret Mizen added, “And I just want to say a big thank you to all the fans who have supported us so much. It’s wonderful for us and we’re grateful to all the staff at Millwall. The Jimmy’s Day is a really big thing for us, and it’s something we look forward to, and we’re quite excited by Saturday. Thank you everyone for all you do for us.

During the home match against Sheffield United, participants from the Jimmy Mizen Cup event had a special pitchside moment alongside Zampa and the Mizens. The winners, Holy Trinity Primary School, also received their trophy from the Mizens.
