Millwall Community Trust delivered another ‘Hug a Bug’ (HBW) workshop to encourage the well-being and natural emotional development of children on our Holiday, Activity and Food Programmes (HAF) today at St Paul’s Sports Ground, Rotherhithe.

After a successful session last week at The Lions Centre, we did the workshop once again but this time at St Paul's Sports Ground, Rotherhithe - with this one just as well received.

As part of our Holiday, Activity and Food Programme (HAF) this summer we are delivering ‘Hug a Bug’ (HBW) workshops to teach children the importance of self-worth and self-belief and prepare them for their futures.

The children also learn the significance of nature to our wellbeing as well as caring for our natural world.

Today, Emily Poole - Millwall Community Trust’s PL Primary Stars Officer - sat down with the children and delivered the ‘I am Unique’ book.

Children were also given a little heart which they were able to design in whichever way they liked - again highlighting the ‘Unique’ factor.

The ‘Hug a Bug’ (HBW) activities will also allow the children to learn more about nature and will provide with all the necessary resources.

Hug a bug (HBW) workshops are an inactive story telling provision, that will work on developing the child’s self esteem, confidence and self worth and will address the outcomes for every child matters.

Just from the very 1st storyline of “I am Unique”, story telling book, the whole ethos being around the fact that every child is indeed Unique and therefore matters.

This is all about instilling the belief in themselves that they do matter.

This goes to the core belief system of any child and human being; being told they matter is not enough - they need to belief this themselves!

Be Healthy:

Not all children are incentivised by sports, so the HBW activity is about getting children off the couch and into nature.  A significant number of the follow-on activities are nature (outdoor) based.

By participating and sharing in a group setting, children will experience a reduction in isolation.

Stay Safe:

Positive relationships are enhanced by the children understanding how they feel and how others feel too, developing empathy.

Enjoy and Achieve:

Activity sheets will be supplied as a part of the HAF programme for children to use their imagination in a unique way.

The overall take home pack encourages further interaction in the home environment with parents and siblings.

Make a Positive Contribution:

We strive to capture feedback from all children, parents and club staff who engage with the HBW experience.

Achieve Economic well-being:

By becoming more confident and emotionally understanding, it is proven that academic ability and relationships are enhanced.

Julia Keys, CEO and Author of Hug a Bug World said: “Hug-a Bug World wants to help as many children as possible to be and feel their best.

“Based on proven psychological techniques the child learns subliminally through the connection of the stories, soft toy bugs and affirmation hearts, building their core belief system, confidence and resilience - Hug-a-Bug World (HBW) can really make a difference.”

Sean Daly, Millwall Community Trust CEO said: “The Hug a Bug Workshops have been a great success this summer on our Holiday Camps.

"The children really enjoyed it, and they will now be able to take the messages from the Workshops away with them for the future."
