Millwall Community Trust in partnership with Southwark Refugees Communities Forum hosted a football match at Burgess Park on Saturday afternoon.

The event celebrated Refugee Week and was in co-partnership with Southwark Council and United St Saviours.

Starting at 12:30pm, each participant received a brand-new Millwall Football Club kit which they were able to keep.

The match took place between Best Western and Driscoll House - two of Southwark Council’s refugee and asylum accommodation providers - and was played in the right spirit with the result ending 3-2 to Best Western.

Following the match, everyone in attendance headed back to St Giles’ Trust for a barbecue and a chance to get know one another.

Jason Vincent, Millwall Community Trust’s EDI and Safeguarding Lead said: “It was an absolute pleasure to sponsor this event.

“It was important to be able to bring together the players who were able to meet for the first time and play football.

“It was great to hear they would like to get together again soon which will continue to help their transition into the local borough whilst integrating into the communities.”
