Millwall Community Trust (MCT) recently took a group of young mothers from Bradfield and their families on a trip to Alton Towers on behalf of #MyEnds Southwark (Gamechangers).
Launched in 2020, MyEnds programme is designed to provide support, capacity, and funding for locally-designed interventions in neighbourhoods affected by high and sustained levels of violence.
Hassan Ibrahim, who has been at the forefront of the project since it began at Millwall, said: “We’ve been working this group for about 7 months. On the programme, we’ve been working to help the young mothers in several ways. We’ve supported and helped them sign up to a 4-week conflict and resolution course that was led by the organisation Leap Confronting Conflict. We’re also in the process of setting up a self-defence class and employability workshops.
One of the things they put forward to Millwall, and the consortium, was to go on a day trip outside of London. They came to a mutual decision on the trip being a day out to Alton Towers. They decided it would be a good experience for some of the young mothers and families that have never travelled to one of the most popular theme parks. It was a great experience overall, it made me happy to see the faces of the children and the mothers enjoying a lovely day out.”
At the moment, MCT have also set up a free football session for the kids in Bradfield Youth Club, and we look forward to setting up more initiatives .
