Last week marked the end of Millwall Community Trust’s (MCT) successful summer holiday camps.

Millwall Community Trust held FREE summer holiday camps in various locations in Lewisham and Southwark. The camps ran for 5 weeks, and they were open to kids and young people aged 5-16.

Every day they were taught different football skills, techniques, and a range of sports from our qualified coaches.

As well as this, the kids and young people were invited to watch Millwall’s first team train at The Den. This gave them the opportunity to speak to players and see what they could achieve if they work hard enough and attend the right programmes at MCT.

They then went on to receive tickets to watch Millwall v Coventry by the players to thank them for attending the training session.

Legendary Community Club provided hot and healthy meals all summer long for the kids and young people to enjoy, they said: “We are super proud of the youth team making just over 9,900 meals for Summer HAF 22.”

A parent of participants who attended the camp reached out to us about their experience and said: “I would like to say thank you for organising such an amazing summer camp for children! I have 3 siblings (2 of which have special educational needs) that have attended the first week of the event and they absolutely loved it and now are looking forward to the week 2. Your staff is amazing, compassionate, and patient to integrate and support children throughout the day especially when it comes to SEN.

The Summer sports camp gave them an opportunity to meet and play along other children and prepare for a big change in their lives. Big thank you to you and the Millwall FC for creating wonderful opportunities for the local community!”

Sean Daly, MCT CEO, said: “It’s great that we can offer these free camps to local families. The holidays can be hard for kids when it comes to getting a good amount of exercise and meals, which is an issue as cases of food poverty in childhood continue.

Our holiday camps come with so many benefits e.g., match tickets, watching the first team train, take and make boxes to cook at home because we want to help the local community in any way we can,and encourage the younger generation.

Thank you to the council for their funding which made it possible for these sessions to happen and thank you to Alexandra and her team at Legendary Community Club for the meals. We look forward to holding more holiday camps soon.”

Keep a lookout on our social media to find out about our next holiday camp.
