Millwall Community Trust (MCT) recently received a letter from the Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan, thanking them for the continued great work in the community. He commended the outstanding impact the work MCT do in Southwark has had on the community.

Sadiq Khan has been a consistent supporter of the Trust, having previously made a visit to The Den to witness the work of Millwall Community Trust in supporting local children and young people.

Sean Daly, MCT CEO, said: “It’s great to have the Mayor of London Sadiq Khan continue to show support for what we do at MCT. We do what we can do support the local community and the children and young people within that community.

Our programmes use the power of football to tackle issues we see in the area. As Millwall FC CEO, Steve Kavanagh, once said: “Football is a fantastic engagement tool. Once you engage people, having hooked them in with football, then you can start to deliver change” and a having a positive change is what we will continue to aim for.

The letter reads:

Dear Sean,

I am writing to thank you and your team for your commitment to supporting and
inspiring Southwark's young people through your projects. Many
congratulations to all staff involved in reaching 1,387 young people through your Young
Londoners Fund project.

I am particularly proud of the support you and your consortium partners have given to
young people through your Kicks programme and I am inspired hearing about the work
you do on mentoring, peer to peer mentoring, outreach work, multi sports activities and
workshops supporting both young people and their parents/guardians.

The pandemic has been a particularly challenging time for young people. Youth
professionals have been on the front-line, supporting them in very difficult
circumstances. Millwall Community Trust's implementation of techniques to empower
young people and gain their trust demonstrates the importance of providing high quality
community-based activities.

As Mayor, I am committed to supporting young Londoners and particularly those most in
need. Through my new programme the "New Deal for Young People", my team and I will
ensure young Londoners most in need of support will have access to a personal mentor
and quality youth activities by 2024.

Please do pass this letter on to your colleagues at Millwall Community Trust, and the
other partners you have worked with in the community. On behalf of all Londoners,
thank you again for your continued work with and for children and young people.

Yours Sincerely,

Sadiq Khan
