Last week, Millwall Football Club and Millwall Community Trust (MCT) had the pleasure of welcoming the Mayor and Mayoress of Southwark, and several Southwark councillors to an information evening at The Den.
Newly elected councillors, and older councillors of Southwark, had the opportunity to find out more about what Millwall does to help the Southwark community.
Millwall Trustees, Lord Roy Kennedy, Steve Kavanagh, Simon Hughes, Peter Vardy, and MCT CEO, Sean Daly, were all in attendance. All key members spoke to the councillors about Millwall, and highlighted the importance of the work we do.
After the presentation, Councillor Sunil Chopra, Mayor of Southwark, said: “It was amazing to see what the Community Trust does. I wasn’t fully aware of everything Millwall do in the community. However, after seeing this, I think you’re doing tremendous work. One thing I was very impressed with was your prison programme for young people. This is an important need in our community because we don’t want to spoil their futures. So, I’m very impressed.”
Sean Daly, MCT CEO, said: It’s important to have these evenings, so we’re on the same page as a community. Millwall Community Trust is here to service the public and we do what we can to find possible solutions to local problems. Who better to speak to than key people who represent their area and know the wants and needs of local people.
We look forward to holding more evenings like this and giving councillors a first-hand experience of our programmes.”
The councillors were also invited to watch the Millwall FC v Wigan Athletic game happening the following day. The Mayor and Mayoress of Southwark were gifted a personalised Millwall jersey.
