Today marks the start of another year and I would like to take this opportunity to wish everyone connected with our great club a very Happy New Year. I took up the role of Chairman of the Millwall Community Trust in September 2019 after a period of considerable uncertainty and management upheaval. It is no exaggeration to say that the Trust’s very existence was on the line. We moved quickly to appoint a new Chief Executive in Sean Daly and a new management team structure and completely overhauled our key operating policies and procedures including our vital safeguarding obligations. We introduced a new Business Plan with associated budgets and started work straight away on attracting new revenue streams and cutting costs where appropriate. Like the team on the pitch, the last three months has seen us make real and sustained progress. The Club’s main sponsor has become the Trust’s sponsor in a new five-year deal and we were successful in securing a number of funding bids including a £500,000 National Citizenship programme which will transform the lives of some 250 16 to 18 year olds in the London Boroughs of Lewisham and Southwark over the next three years. Today, you will see the Trust’s new sponsorship brochure available around the stadium and in the various lounges and executive boxes and I hope you will take time to read it. I know you will be proud of the fact that our Trust is such a force for good in our local communities and is making a real difference to the lives of so many people of all ages and backgrounds. If you are able to support us financially, I can assure you that your contribution (however small) will make a difference. The Trust now enters 2020 with renewed optimism and I believe it has bright future. I must thank my fellow trustees (Mark Fairbrother, Sir Simon Hughes, Peter Garston, Steve Kavanagh, Lord Kennedy of Southwark and Carly Simmons) as well as recently departed trustees Andy Ambler and long-serving Father Owen Beament. I also thank our Company Secretary Philip O’Halloran and Chief Executive Sean Daly and everyone who works at every level below him, be they full-time, part-time or casual staff. The Club staff from CEO Steve Kavanagh down are so supportive of our work and we appreciate and value their advice and support. All of the above-mentioned people make our Trust what it is today and it is high time our community work starts to receive the recognition it deserves and that is a key objective for 2020.
