This year’ Friendship League started again with a new and better format.
Instead of playing only a few times each year, we now have matches every month.
This gives our players more football, more chances to learn, and more time together as a team. The league is still split into two levels: the Championship and League One.
Our first home matches were against Sutton and Southwark Stars. Both games were full of hard work and strong team spirit. The players showed how much they have improved and how much they enjoy playing for Millwall.
Our League One side has made a brilliant start. They have played four matches and won all four. The team is working well together, and each game shows how much they support each other and how their way of playing has improved.
A few players deserve a special mention. Steve O has been excellent in goal, making many important saves. Omari, who recently joined the Adult Team, has shown a great attitude and strong effort in every session. Sahan, who joined
Millwall last year, played very well in his first Friendship League matches and showed strong defending skills. The Championship Team has also improved a lot. The league is very difficult, but the team keeps working hard. So far, they have three draws and one close loss.
Compared to last year, this is a very positive start. In some matches, they came back from behind, showing great character and teamwork. The tactical work the players focused on in training has also been clear in the recent matches.
We also welcome a new coach to the coaching team. He is already building good relationships with the players and bringing new ideas to training.
Looking ahead, there is a lot to be excited about. Both teams will continue playing in the Friendship League, with more away matches that we hope will help us keep improving. Our Under-18 team will have a rematch at Arsenal and will return to the Middlesex PAN League, where we aim to continue our progress.
There is still a lot of football to come, and the year already looks very positive. The players are working hard and learning every week.
