Millwall Football Club hosted its annual ‘Community Day’ when Barnsley visited The Den on Saturday 9th April.

Community Day provided a platform for the club to showcase the wide variety of fantastic work done by Millwall Community Trust.
The day was a huge success with many activities going on. Different MCT programmes, such as PAN disability, Alternative Provision (AP) Academy and walking sports held football games.

The Junior Lions fun zone returned, professional boxer Chris ‘2Slick’ Kongo held a boxing session with the kids, a local DJ played at the SE16 Bus stop Band Stand, and so much more. Alongside the exciting activities, partner organisations of the Trust and club had stalls set up to showcase their work.

MCT’s Post-16 students, Millwall Lionesses, and Millwall Romans held a stadium-wide bucket collection to help raise funds for MCT while giving out limited edition MCT Community Day T-shirts and wristbands.

Principal partner Huski Chocolate kindly forfeited their shirt sponsorship for the day, and Millwall Community Trust’s logo featured on the front.
Before the match, MFC players also showed their support for the National Citizen Service (NCS) programme that is run at Millwall by wearing NCS shirts while warming up.

The community action continued as Millwall Lionesses and development centre players provided a Guard of Honour on the pitch.
It was an amazing end to the day when Millwall won 4-1 against Barnsley FC.

When looking back at the day, Sean Daly, MCT CEO, said: “It was a great turnout and the support shown by the community was amazing. We have so much going on at Millwall that it’s only right to put on days like this, so we can showcase what is available to the local community.”
“Thank you to all who came along, and everyone who helped make the day a great success. The money raised will help us continue the important work we do in the community. We appreciate the help and support shown by all.”

Mayor of Southwark, Barrie Hargrove, came along to show support with the Mayoress of Southwark. He had nothing but positive things to say about the day and the work MCT do: “Thank you Millwall Community Trust and Millwall Football Club for making us so welcome and giving us a lovely afternoon. Keep up the brilliant work you are doing supporting so many people. I’m sure you will! Good luck with everything.”

Rt Hon Sir Simon Hughes, added: “Great community day at The Den. Even better with a 4-1 win. And very good to welcome the Mayor and Mayoress of Southwark, and grateful for their enthusiastic support.
