Before the recent midweek game against Swansea, Millwall Community Trust Education and Employability Manager John Scarborough was acknowledged for his achievement in completing his National Professional qualification in Senior leadership (NPQSL) in partnership with Conisborough College.
John’s achievement was highly notable scoring a rare 100% full score NPQSL pass mark for his Millwall school improvement project which was on the Millwall Conisborough College Elite AP Academy programme.
The Trust has been working in partnership with Consiborough College for nearly 5 years and has seen the partnership develop year on year and currently sees Conisborough KS4 students access Millwall first class facilities at the Lion centre and St Pauls Stadium. It also sees Millwall Coaches work full-time in the school providing taught workshop delivery onsite and additional support and capacity for the P.E programme and also across the school with inclusion and also TA and cover supervision staff secondment roles.
Most recently it has seen Millwall in partnership with National Literacy Trust deliver a ‘Represent’ Oracy Literacy afterschool intervention programme to a YR7 girls group and also deliver a YR11 After school Girls intervention group at the Lions centre.
MCT’s Education and Employability Manager, John Scarborough spoke about his award: “To achieve the NPQSL qualification has been brilliant for my own development. Importantly it also helps further validate the array of education work that the trust provides locally to schools with impact evidence of the benefit of using our education intervention programmes to improve secondary pupils aspirations and achievement.
“The final assessed improvement project was on the Millwall AP Academy Elite programme delivered across 2 years with a Conisborough KS4 group and helped capture the programmes impact on improving the groups overall outcomes, progress, attitude to learning, attendance and punctuality.
“To achieve a 100% grade was amazing, but would never have been possible if not for the mentoring support and trust provided by the Conisborough Headteacher and leadership team regarding the project and access provided.
“The actual final parts of the project was completed whilst on the trusts Kenya township schools education trip in a setting where education opportunity is limited but respected so highly, it really cemented the importance and impact of value added education intervention support, and how the power of football can have on the education aspirations of young people both in and out the classroom.”
Mike Harpham, Headteacher at Conisborough College said: “As an NPQH, NPQSL and NPQML assessor and coach, I can say first hand that John’s achievement in gaining 100% in his final assessment is not often gained and is testimony to his leadership skills, ability and work ethic. Congratulations John!
“For Conisborough College, the support we get from the Millwall Education team is second to none. The students are committed and enjoy the work they do with John and his team. They are an incredibly strong positive force in the school and a relationship of which we are keen to continue for a very long time to come.”
