Millwall Community Trust’s Play on the Pitch Day at The Den was a huge success on Tuesday!
Starting at 9:30am in the morning with a Primary Schools Tournament - eight schools were involved in the event.
After an enthralling group stage, the final was played between Goose Green and Holy Trinity with Goose Green coming out victorious.
Following on from this, Millwall’s Post-16 team faced off against Canterbury’s Post-16 team with the Kent-based team winning 3-1.
The AP KS3 Year 9 Tournament kicked off the afternoon, with six teams involved in the competition.
After the competitive early stages of the event, the final would be competed between a Bacon’s College side and the London Nautical School with the former coming out on top.
The two schools KS4 year groups would take each other on in a full pitch contest next.
London Nautical started well and took the lead before a late Bacon’s College fight back wasn’t quite enough to complete the turnaround with London Nautical winning 3-2 and lifting the cup after a superb game.
After this, we had our usual Player Development Centre session - which is normally held at St Paul’s Sports Ground - between 4:30-6:00pm.
150 children turned up for this special occasion and all left with a smile on their face after having an excellent time.
To finish off the day Millwall Lionesses Girls Academy would take to the pitch before finishing the day off with a photo in front of the Cold Blow Lane end.
Millwall Community Trust CEO, Sean Daly said: “We are delighted with how our Community takeover Play on the Pitch Day went and it was great to see so many people enjoying themselves, at the Trust our aim is create opportunities for participants and this was shown in the event today.
“Thank you to everyone who took part, and we are already planning for next year’s event.”
