Millwall’s Represent Y7 girls Programme at Conisborough College following on from their standout performance at the House of Lords in March to National Literacy Trust and Lord Kennedy saw the group invited as VIPS to present as key note speakers at the National Literacy Trust national staff conference at the Westminster Abbey centre on Wednesday afternoon.
The group proudly wearing their Conisborough College uniform and led by support act and Millwall Represent programme facilitator Beyonce arrived at Westminster at 1pm for the groups registration, VIP lunch and to set up for the afternoon ahead.
At 2pm, the Conisborough College Represent team then performed in front of a sell out conference of leading National Literacy Trust professionals their presentation, each stepping up and speaking to the audience about a topic that was really important to them and what needed changing - read their presentation out to the National Literacy Trust Staff. Each receiving a loud round of applause from the crowd describing the girls performance as 'mesmerising', 'breathtaking', 'professional', ‘inspiring' and 'powerful'.
Following this, the group then initiated audience interaction and all shone as their confidence grew from their performance.
Afterwards the National Literacy Trust invited the group to a seperate room where the group helped and led National Literacy Trust senior managers on reviewing the NLT Represent programme and also the creation of a new literacy national programme to be delivered across the country.
Beyonce the Millwall Represent programme facilitator said: “The trip to Westminster Hall was amazing, the girls and i got to meet so many people who supported the Represent program and wanted to express how proud they were of the girls after delivering such thoughtful speeches.
“A big thank you to Kirsty and Jim for giving them another opportunity to be great.”
John Scarborough, Millwall Community Trust’s Education and Employability Manager said: “To witness this performance and further growth in the girls is testament to Beyonce’s support and rapport she has with this group but also the tenacity of this group to develop and commitment to getting their opinion heard whilst recognising the position of others.
“I have seen many student’s presentations at secondary schools, college and even university lectures but none were of the level of passion and depth that the girls committed to their individual and collective presentation on their work from the panel and the audience.
“Just well done to these Conisborough Lionesses who really represented themselves and the school and their community excellently on the day and should be proud.”
