‘Rocky and Wrighty Arena’ are hosting Millwall Community Trust’s free of charge Summer Holiday activity Camps.
MCT will be running over the summer period Free of Charge Holiday, Activity and Food camps (HAF) camps at the arena based at Turnham Primary school where 30 children from the local community will attend each day.
Included in the Holiday camps is a free hot meal every day as well as four hours of sports coaching for the children.
The arena has been open since April 2023 where Ian Wright himself opened the facility.
The floodlit all-weather facility is a game changer for children at the school and people in the wider community, who now have access to a quality, safe and inclusive place to play all-year round.
Ian Wright and David Rocastle lived next door to Turnham Academy and Wright built the facility because he knew how much of a difference it would make for the local community.
The arena was funded by the Premier League, The FA and Government’s Football Foundation and EA SPORTS at his former primary school, Turnham Academy, in South East London.
When officially opening the ‘Rocky and Wrighty Arena’, Ian Wright said: “Seeing this pitch open and looking so good makes me really proud. It’s going to make such a difference to so many kids in the area I grew up in.
“For me, it’s more than a pitch, it’s a tribute to my dear friend, David Rocastle, which I hope will inspire more young people to fall in love with football. We used to spend hours kicking a ball about and now these kids have a proper pitch to play on. It’s so exciting for them!”
Sean Daly, Millwall Community Trust CEO said: “We are delighted to be able to utilise these facilities to make a difference in the local community with our free Summer holiday camps, Ian opened this facility for these sorts of programmes to be run out it, creating positive activities for local children.
“Everything we do at Millwall Community Trust is to provide opportunities for the local community and we look forward to continue doing this in the future at this wonderful site.”
