Millwall Community Trust Trustee and former MP for Bermondsey and UK Justice Minister Sir Simon Hughes visited our Holiday, Activity and Food Camps (HAF) today at St Paul's.

Simon was appointed as Chancellor of London South Bank University in November 2018. He was the Deputy Leader of the Liberal Democrats from 2010 to 2014, and from 2013 until 2015 was Minister of State at the Ministry of Justice. Simon was the Member of Parliament (MP) for the constituency of Bermondsey and Old Southwark from 1983 until 2015.

MCT are running free of charge Holiday, Activity and Food camps (HAF) camps over the summer period at St Paul’s where 70 children from the local community will attend each day.

Our St Paul’s HAF Camp runs from 10am-2pm, five days a week.

Simon visited St Paul’s to witness a day of our holiday camps and experienced the great work being done.

Delivered by our superb coaching team, Simon watched the children enjoy fun football drills, which help them to develop their skills.

A free hot meal is included as well as fruit which is available all day.

Sir Simon Hughes said: “Really great and positive day here at St Paul’s. A free Summer Holiday, Activity and Food Programme means so much to all the youngsters who come.

“It’s not surprising we have waiting lists and it’s not surprising it’s so popular with parents, carers, and families.

“This is exactly the sort of work that Millwall Community Trust loves doing and we’re really grateful to all the coaches, the staff and the volunteers and those who fund us, Lewisham and Southwark Council and other places.

“The more we can do this, the better.”

Tim Sells, Millwall Community Trust Football and Sports Development Manager added: “We were delighted to welcome Sir Simon Hughes down to St Paul’s and show him the work being done on our free Holiday, Activity and Food Camps (HAF).”
