Due to a unique community partnership between Millwall Community Trust (MCT) and Fisher Youth FC, MCT is proud to announce the historic registration of Fisher Youth FC’s first girls football team. The new Fisher Youth FC U12 Girls team will start playing fixtures this season (23/24) in the all-female Tandridge League U12 premier division. The players were all recruited from Millwall Community Trust’s weekly Premier League Kick’s sessions held at St Paul’s Sports Ground on Wednesdays and the Docklands Settlement on Thursdays throughout the year.
Fisher Youth’s Director of Football, Paul Harbert, said “Coaching on the sessions first hand has allowed me to see the demand for a local girls team. When I started on the Girls Kicks programme there were only two girls attending but now we average over 30 each and every week which is fantastic. We believe that there are lots of girls out there who want to play but aren’t being given an opportunity. It’s great to have training sessions only for girls, but most expressed a desire to be in a team and experience competition. Through hard work, determination and our fantastic relationship with Millwall Community Trust, we are delighted to be creating Fisher FC’s first girls team and hope to create many more in future seasons”.
Fisher Youth FC’s Managing Director Chris Hiscock said: “MCT CEO Sean Daly and his team have been instrumental in assembling the squad and have agreed to be kit sponsors for the next two seasons which is fantastic news. Our community partnership with Millwall Community Trust has allowed Fisher Youth FC to grow exponentially since the easing of lockdown restrictions and has enhanced the pathway to senior football for the grassroots community in the Borough of Southwark for boys and now girls. We are delighted to give young girls an opportunity they have not had before and hope this is the first of many over the coming years”.
The Trust aims to support the residents of its local communities and offer experiences and opportunities whenever possible. Tim Sells, Millwall Community Trust’s Football Development Manager said “It is a pleasure to be able to support Fisher FC through this sponsorship deal and more importantly, the young girls of Southwark who want to emulate their Lionesses heroes. Due to the hard work of Paul Harbert and our own Community Manager Joubin Sarrami, we have taken a fun, development session and grown it into a squad which will now allow them the chance to compete which is an opportunity they have never had before. Through the sessions we have also had girls join our own advanced Millwall Lionesses Academy which is fantastic to see. We are delighted to support this fantastic opportunity for young girls and will continue to help make Southwark the best footballing borough in London.”
