Millwall Community Trust took part in the Mad about football tournament yesterday which was hosted by Active Communities Network (ACN).

Active Communities Network (ACN) use positive activities to enable change in young people and communities which have been disadvantaged.

The young people interacted with the ACN staff and Councillor Dora Dixon-Fyle was also there to present the awards.

The Southwark Metropolitan Police were in attendance to continue building relationships with young people and witness them enjoying sport in a safe environment.

The Millwall sides were chosen from our weekly Damilola Taylor Centre and Lions Centre Premier League Kicks Sessions.

Millwall took two sides for the U16 tournament and one side for the U13 competition.

The tournament was a five-aside competition with sides such as Ballers Academy, SL90, Rockingham FC, SSCT and ROCA all involved.

Southwark Young Advisors helped officiate the matches and kept up to date with the standings throughout the day.

The young people don’t have the opportunity to play much competitive football outside their weekly session so it was a great experience for them.

All participants showed great teamwork, leadership and resilience throughout the day.

To top it off our U13’s and U16’s won their respective age groups tournament and lifted the trophy - with the U16 competition being an all Millwall final.

Joubin Sarrami, Millwall Community Trust Community Manager said: “What a fantastic day for the young people where they learned valuable skills.

“It was great to see sportsmanship on show with all young people cheering each other on.

“Thank you to Active Communities Network for hosting the event and Southwark Young Advisors and Southwark Metropolitan Police for coming down and engaging with the young people.

“Thank you to all the coaches involved who made the day possible and thoroughly enjoyable for the young people.

“A special mention to the other clubs and participants involved in the day which made it a great tournament for all.”
