Millwall Lionesses beat Dorking Wanderers 3-1 on Sunday to claim their first win of the 2023/24 season.
The victory keeps Millwall 3rd in the London & South East Regional Women’s League, just two points behind leaders Dartford.
Keith Boanas’s side started the better of the two teams and breached the visitors backline twice in the opening ten minutes of the game with the Dorking stopper able to keep The Lionesses at bay.
But that wasn’t to last as a Sophie Chapman's delivery was met by Emma Whitter at the back post who poked the ball underneath of the goalkeeper to give Millwall the lead after thirteen minutes.
After Millwall came close to doubling their lead, it was Dorking who would hit back and levelled just prior to the half hour mark.
That didn’t knock The Lionesses confidence, however and they retook the lead just two minutes before the half-time interval.
Shannan Drewe got the ball out of her feet before unleashing a stunning strike into the top right-hand corner.
Millwall announced new goalkeeper signing Darcy Guy before the match and she made a vital save just after restart, tipping the ball over the bar to make sure the lead was protected.
That save proved all so important just nine minutes later as Emma Whitter got her second and Millwall’s third after a smart finish from Shannan Drewe’s corner.
Millwall would see the win out from there and make sure they moved to four points after two league matches.
Next up for The Lionesses is a trip to Saltdean United as they look to continue their unbeaten start.
