Millwall Lionesses lost 3-2 against Saltdean United on Sunday afternoon.
Goals from Emma Whitter looked as though Millwall may mount a comeback, but they couldn’t quite find the third in an entertaining game.
Saltdean started the game the better of the two sides and took the lead after just 13 minutes. It was two for the hosts five minutes later and they added a third just before the half-hour mark.
Millwall showed resilience, however, and began to dominate the ball, getting one back when they were awarded a penalty just before half-time. Whitter stepped up and slotted home to score her third goal of the season and leave the scoreline 3-1 at the break.
Early in the second-half, Millwall nudged themselves closer to their opponents, as once again Whitter scored to register her fourth goal in two games.
The Lionesses were down to 10, however, with 15 minutes to play when Grace Laverick was shown a red card.
Saltdean held on to secure all three points and Millwall will look to bounce back as they host Dartford this Sunday at St Paul’s Sports Ground (kick-off 1.30pm).
