Zian Flemming and Casper De Norre, two of Millwall Community Trust's (MCT) Education and Employment Ambassadors paid a visit to St Joseph's Primary School in Southwark on Wednesday afternoon as part of our Reading Partners programme.
The duo, Flemming and De Norre, took centre stage as they embarked on their literacy adventure. They selected the book 'Hug a Bug' to engage with the children. As they flipped through the colorful pages, they shared the story's important message, one that focused on self-worth and self-belief, essential building blocks for a bright future. The reading session was not just about words; it was a lesson in life, teaching the children values that would stay with them for years to come.
Following this, Flemming and De Norre transitioned to a worksheet from the Premier League, guiding the children through the questions.
'Hug a Bug' isn't just about personal growth; it also emphasises the importance of nature and taking care of our natural world. The children, in the process of learning about self-worth, also grasped the significance of nature to our overall well-being. It was a lesson that went beyond the classroom, nurturing young minds to be responsible stewards of our environment.
The children, excited and curious, seized the opportunity to ask Flemming and De Norre questions about their footballing careers. MCT's two ambassadors from the world of football shared their experiences, inspiring the children to dream big and work hard to achieve their goals, whilst telling them to work hard in their education.
MCT's Football and Sports Development Manager, Tim Sells was delighted with the impact of this special visit. He said: "What a great experience for the children to have Zian Flemming and Casper De Norre come into their school and read the 'Hug a Bug' book. It just shows what Millwall Community Trust is all about, helping in the local area, and the players doing this will make such an impact on these children and the value of leading their literacy."
The Millwall Community Trust continues to be a beacon of inspiration and support in the local community, showcasing the positive influence that football and education can have on young lives.
